The locomotive cabin is a hard place to spend a working life. Long hours, vibration through every bone, the constant alertness of being the only person responsible for hundreds of lives behind you.

For decades, the operator's seat in that cabin was an afterthought — a hard, rigid box bolted to the floor, designed by people who had never sat in one for twelve hours.

Then we built something different.

"The pilot started keeping the loco cabin clean. Nobody asked him to. The seat had told him, without words, that someone had finally thought about the person who sits in it."
